O
n the west margin of Bihać valley, on a small hill, it can be observed insignificant
rests of old town Izačić that was in property of Izačić family. In the second half
of the 16
th
century it belonged to the King and it became a part of Bihać Captaincy.
In 1563 crew of 20 soldiers guarded it. I. Lenković proposed demolishing and leaving
this town because it was on an extraordinary strategic place. Representatives of King
Ferdinand decided that town needs to be saved, at least one tower to be fixed and guard
settled in it. So in 1577 the crew of Izačić increased to 40 and a year later to 50 men.
Izačić fell under the Ottomans' authority in 1592. The ramparts were fixed and
strong town crew was settled in. The crew had four branches of army. In the beginning
of the 17
th
century the crew doubled and it had 89 border guards. In the middle of the
17
th
century it was doubled again and it had 156 men. Two positions were defended: 38
archers guarded province and rest of them guarded the tower. Until the middle of the
18
th
century Izačić became one of the most powerful fortresses in Krajina. The crew
increased to 300 men and fortress had two bigger and four smaller cannons. Beside
that in the 19
th
century Izačić was deserted and burnt two times: first time in 1808 by
French General Marmon and the second time in 1836 by Austrian General Waldstätten.
