R
emains of the old town Mutnik can be seen on a small hill near village with the
same name, above Mutnica Brook, on the left side of the road Cazin – Tržačka
Raštela. This small town is considerably ruined and all that has left is part of rounded
tower, 6 meters in diameter. In the historical sources for the first time it was mentio-
ned in the 14
th
century under name Mutnica. First possessors of this town were dukes
Gusić – Kurjaković and later Ivan Karlović and dukes Zrinski.
In the second half of the 16
th
century the town was protected by crew of 15 King’s
infantrymen. It fell under the Ottomans' command in 1577 but in 1635 it was deser-
ted. After 1636 the permanent Ottomans' military crew has been stationed inside. It
included 38 men and was under the command of Captain of Bihać.
In the first half of the 18
th
century this crew increased to 50 men and the fortress
got one bigger and two smaller cannons.
