Until today, the Federal Ministry has supported a number of projects launched
by the Institute for Protection of Cultural Heritage of Bihac, which greatly contributed
to the further development and improvement of the promotion, and in the future,
these programs will be monitored by our Ministry.
Realization of the project preparation and publication of the book is a fundamen-
tal part of the project development and improvement.
“Old Town of the Una-Sana Canton”
was based on the rich material collected
which includes: systematization, typological classification, and assessing the situati-
on and defining global valuation guidelines of the cultural heritage of the Una-Sana
Canton.
In recent years, the Institute has invested a lot of effort to show the areas of monu-
ments’ heritage as a mandatory part of the actual spatial planning at all levels. The pro-
gram objectives were fortified, which will encourage the preservation, revitalization
and affirmation of cultural heritage, on the principle of integrated planning through
the
“active protection”
and the revitalization of historic buildings which supposed to
be the sustainable and environmental-accepted.
Many ancient towns, protected as national monuments, which were once military,
cultural, economic and spiritual centers, are abandoned, or, simply “devastated” with
new, inadequate facilities.
In the framework of this book was explored what happened. Why is a deve-
lopmental sequence of the historic center interrupted? Are there economic and other
resources for their rehabilitation and how to run them? Or maybe in that cities and
monuments, as well as with humans, there are a natural cycle: birth, adulthood, and
death. Supporting the survival of some ancient cities, that has no grounding in the
concept of sustainable development, is with very short duration of existance.
Although the first edition was published in small circulation in quantities of 400
examples, this material itself, is seeking a new print or II edition, but in such small
numbers it was enabled the promotion and education of many people.
Many cultural values disappear or it was damaged many times, and sometimes,
because of an ignorance. Therefore, the emphasis on education and promotion of
cultural heritage are needed to be at US Canton, Federal level, State and region, thro-
ugh the media, the Internet, forums, professional brochures, movies and organizing
exhibitions, and in the end - to the effect of making the census Register.
