KULEN VAKUF
In the third decade of the 18
th
century this town was unofficially called the Pro-
vince of Mahmut-Pasha Kulenović. He has built mosque there and left vakuf (founds
for promotion of muslim religious aims) for maintaining. That is why this place got
the name Vakuf, and in 1836 Kulen Vakuf. With the military crew commanded aga
(sir) as assistant of captain of Ostrožac.
