This town was placed on the Hill of Peh, near today’s settlement. First known
owners of the land round Vrnograč were members of Kreščić tribe, whose ancestors
got this place from Hungarian King Bela IV. This tribe has built Vrnograč and Podzvi-
zd in the second half of the 15th century with help of King Vladislav. Later Vrnograč
belonged to Dukes Zrinski. They had a 100 equestrians and 32 soldiers paid by King.
The town had quadrangle shape with three circle and one quadrangle tower on
its angles. Town ramparts with loopholes were attached to the tower. The ramparts
were surrounding town yard. Entrance to the town yard, with doors and watchtower
above, was placed on the eastside. In 1580 this town was destroyed by order of the
Austrian War Council.
It was restored by Ottomans' in 1636. Above town entrance they built a wooden
mosque for needs of permanent crew under command of Captain of Krupa. In the
first half of the 18th century the crew included a 100 border guards. The fortress was
supplied with two bigger and two smaller cannons.
