In the beginning of the 16
th
century the crew had 68 border guards and by the
middle of the 17
th
century it increased to 218 men. In the first half of the 18
th
century
the crew had 100 men less and just one smaller cannon. Because of frequent attacks
of Austrian Army in the first half of the 18
th
century the Ottomans' authorities had
built new town next to Stijena. Ramparts of that town were 3 meters wide and made
of shaped rocks. On the top of the ramparts were walls with loopholes. On the angles
were four trenches. Today this is one of the most preserved old towns in this area.
