T
he old town Ripač was located on an Una island in area of the same named anci-
ent colony. Until recently there could be seen remains of town walls and towers.
In sources Ripač was mentioned for the first time in 1408. It is considered that this
town was center of the tribal state of Hum, which was placed on the upper course of
Una River, from Sokolac and Golubić to Čovka and Vrtoče. During the 15
th
century it
changed many masters. It belonged to Frankopans, Dukes Krbava and Ivaniš Korvin.
In the middle of this town was a rectangle tower with three floors and rectangle de-
fending wall around.
