O
n a half way between Velika Kladuša and Vrnograč on the top of a hill we can
still see some remains of old town Podzvizd. By the sources this town was men-
tioned for the first time in 1389 and it belonged to the Kreščić tribe. In the second half
of the 16
th
century this was a property of the Duke Mikulčić and it was guarded by 8
king’s soldiers. In 1590 the town was destroyed by proposal of Austrian war council.
Mustafa–Pasha rebuilt this town in the first half of the 18
th
century and set the crew
of 90 border guards under command of the fortress commander inside. The town had
one bigger and two smaller cannons and was the part of Ostrožac Captaincy. In 1845
Austrian Army under command of Colonel Josip Jelačić was defeated on this place.
